THE KEY TO THE MOST DELICIOUS SANDWICHES!
Sandwiches are one of America’s favorite food. There are 100’s of variations, from Louisiana’s Po’ Boy, to Philadelphia’s Cheese Steak, but the idea stays the same – a delicious filling inbetween two pieces of bread. We make and consume billions a year, but heave you ever noticed that regardless of what type of sandwich your eating, they always taste better when they’re made by someone else? In a series of five experiments conducted by Carnegie Mellon University, researchers discovered the science behind why!
“When you make your own sandwich, you anticipate its taste as you’re working on it. And when you think of a particular food for a while, you become less hungry for it later. It’s a kind of specific satisfaction… The sandwich that another person prepares is not ‘preconsumed’ in the same way.” muses noted psychologist Daniel Kahneman.
While this explanation might sound contradictory, researchers at CMU believe the answer lies in the fact that an extended exposure to a stimulus (ie the sandwich) decreases the urge to eat. Seeing that sandwich being made makes it less desirable. This works on the same principle that the first bite is always the best, and by your 5th square of chocolate, for example, you’ve likely fulfilled the desire to have chocolate in the first place.

So, while you could probably stay at home and make your own, when the science is this accurate, why would you risk it? Our’s will taste MUCH better!
