EVENT: SATURDAY 13TH JULY – PUERTO RICAN PILSNER PARTY

To celebrate the launch of “No Mirrors”, our brand new Puerto Rican Pilsner, on Saturday 13th July we’re throwing a good ol’ fashioned party down here at Good Word Brewing & Public House – and y’all are invited!

“No Mirrors” is our 5.5% Puerto Rico inspired Pilsner. Brewed with our friends at Little Lager in St Louis, run by Manny and Bill, it celebrates Puerto Rican heritage. Weyermann Extra pale Pilsner malt, rice and plantains start us off in the mash bringing a light, crisp body and a beautiful golden hue. Hopped with German Amarillo and Saaz, “No Mirrors” has Pilsner-like bitterness for a nice bite, with light floral characters and a lingering honeysuckle finish. Incredibly refreshing and easy drinking, it pairs well with warm weather, great company, and a Puerto Rican style celebratory feast!

As well as first pours of “No Mirrors” there will be specialty food and drink features, again inspired by Puerto Rican culture. On the food side, Executive Chef Brian Crain has created a special celebratory menu, including whole, spit roast suckling pigs. “Whole roasted pig, or lechon, is a staple of Puerto Rican cuisine, so it was a no-brainer to pair with our Puerto Rico inspired Pilsner” says Brian. “Any excuse to do whole roasted pork is enough for me. It is a delicious treat!”

The spit roast pig will be accompanied by rice and pigeon peas (arroz con gandules) and caramelized plantains. Bringing this all together are two delicious house made sauces, a fermented red pepper sofrito and pique sauce. Sofrito, a classic pepper sauce that carries a little less spice but is a little more creamy, and Pique, a classic vinegary hot sauce made with garlic, chile peppers, and oregano. All this will be served alongside corn tortillas, so you can build your own tacos!

Alongside the feature menu, our bar team have created some fantastic rum-based cocktails to accompany the food and the spirit of the day. We caught up with Bar Manager Noah Roberts to chat about what to expect! “First on the list HAD to be a Pina Colada. It’s everyones favourite, pairs well with the food and the party atmosphere we want to create, and offers something on the other side of the Pislner”. Planteray 3 Star white rum sets the stage for the pineapple and coconut cream bringing rich, tropical flavours, finished with a dash of lime juice for balance. A touch of Smith & Cross rum finishes off the cocktail beautifully, adding depth of flavour. “I love getting creative with feature cocktails, and I can already tell our take on this classic will go down a treat!”

So, what are you waiting for?! Mark Saturday 13th July in your calendars and head down to Good Word Brewing & Public House to experience a bit of what we do best – fresh beer brewed with passion, delicious food prepared with love and designed to share, and expertly curated cocktails with bags of flavour.
